Game Summary

In Rogue Paragon you play as Ohmu, an adventurer who, in his overconfidence, has lost all his money and finally his soul in a gamble of cards. A mysterious stranger offers you one last chance to recover your soul. To do this, you must get to the ultimate treasure of the Souldungeon.

Fight your way to the end of the Souldungeon by surviving a challenging, evolving sequence of levels. You'll encounter dangerous enemies and traps. Collect valuable loot, discover hidden secrets and trade with opportunistic merchants to get powerful items and the decisive advantage.

Core Mechanics

  • Primary Weapon - Your sword serves as your primary means of attack; it's fast, brutal, and can cut through almost anything.
  • Secondary Items - During your travels you will come across a variety of weapons, items, and equipment. Magic scrolls, potions and bombs are limited, use them wisely.
  • Dash - The Dash can be used to dodge attacks, overcome crevices and chasms, break through obstacles and even stun enemies.

hey man. just saw the steam page, and it's looking great! The only thing I'd suggest (as long as it's not already set in stone) would be to change the name, or add a subtitle to incorporate the word "abyss"... I'm telling you, and no joke! There's something about that word in the title that makes people want it!

i forgot to hop back on and tell you... i don't know what you did exactly, but it definitely feels a little different, but in a good way. Did you tweak the characters A.I.? they really come at you like they're getting a free lunch out of the deal (if i knew how to add an emoji, there'd be a laughy face here)

That may be. I adjust small things all the time but rarely update this version. Im happy that you like it :)

ok, I promise I’ll shut up after this! I just checked out your twitter, and saw that side scrolling action game from a few years ago, and that looks almost as good as this game! I mean, if I have to choose one, I’m going with the isometric rogue game… but I’m just saying man, I wouldn’t wanna be the guy who disappointed all those orphans on Christmas Day! But hey, the world is made up of all kinds of different people, and maybe you’re the kind who gets his kicks by disappointing starving orphans who only have one shoe to share between the 8 of them, and are forced to sleep on blocks of ice in the winter, and burning hot coals in the summer (but only after being force fed pizza that is so hot that it causes blisters on the roof of their mouth, and to ease the pain, the head of the orphanage will only let them drink room temperature gingerale that lost its fizz so very, very long ago). But anyway, sleep well tonight on your comfortable bed while you’re counting starving orphans… I mean sheep, starving sheep!

Hey there, I just wanted to say that… well, first of all I can’t believe that nobody else has left a comment, so I’m gonna have to assume that everyone’s internet went out at the same time, and didn’t kick back on until a few days later (or however long it took for your game to enter, and leave front page news).

If you can get things looking this polished in pre-alpha, then I don’t even wanna see what you’re capable of when it comes time for the beta/full release! (Insert Ben Stein’s voice/cadence here) Because quite frankly, I don’t think my heart can take that kind of excitement… does anyone under the age of 35 even know who Ben Stein is? I don’t think the chances are very good.

Anyway, PLEASE make sure you don’t abandon this project, and whenever you get done, I want you to keep making games until you’re at least 65, because whatever it is that a person should have that makes their art a few notches above the “average joe”, you have that thing! And I think you were given a double dose of it, because this is just as good as any AAA Roguelite/Zelda-like/or whatever genre you wanna call this. It kinda reminds me of a cross between Zelda, enter the gungeon, and that “Rogue-something-or-other: Ruins of Tacos?… Tabasco?… TALOS!” That’s it!

And I know it’s a long shot, but if you just happen to live anywhere in/near NJ, or the tri state area, and would like to work on a side project, let me know, because I have a ton of ideas for games, and absolutely zero skill to actually make them (but then again, having no skill never stopped me from doing anything before) Also, I’ll try to send you some dough when I’m able to, which should be sometime around 2027 if things continue down the same road they’ve been going.

Hey! Thank you for both of your comments and sorry for my late response. I was busy because I have to do side projects to earn a living :). That you took so much time and your comparisons with games like "Zelda" and "Enter the Gungeon" motivates me a lot to continue. I promise I won't stop this project! By the way, I uploaded a newer version today.

PS: I live in Europe and should start another project first after this one :D.

That's so great to hear! And don't worry about whenever you reply, I rarely ever check my email, or any of this social media garbage, but mainly because I'm absolutely horrible at figuring out how these apps work. (things used to be user friendly, I guess they don't care?) Also, it's kinda funny, you're the 4th or 5th person in the last few weeks who said I motivated them (maybe I can be the next Tony Robins, and yell phony positivity slogans all day... but first I gotta figure out how to motivate myself HA!) But I don't go crazy emailing everyone, I just like to tell a handful of people when I see they have that "special something". I'm not sure what it is exactly, but I get this weird thing with music,  where it could be anything about a song (vocals, guitar/bass riff, drumbeats, whatever) and it just hits you right in the gut! It's a bit different with games, like something about it makes me feel like a kid again for a second (which was something only Nintendo could do up until recently, but their games don't have the magic anymore, very sad) BUT that's where indie games came in, and there are just way too many games to follow! For example, even if you just followed metroidvanias on steam, you couldn't play them all.  I'm sorry, I babble a lot. I'll give you a quick list of games from a few other people I think have the thing, and strangely enough, most are free - 2 steam (ogre chambers dx, rogue glitch) and 1 itch.io (into the necrovale-alpha, also fraukis adventure $5 steam) 1 last thing, I think more people would reach out if 1. they were aware of the game, 2. they weren't running around like headless chickens trying to get by, I just happen to have the time , ya know? You HAVE TO BE exhausted from this, go take a nap! (insert laughing emoji) HA!
